The Definitive Tesla Parts Fitment Guide (2012–2026)
The Definitive Tesla Parts Fitment Guide (2012–2026)
At J&J Auto Wrecking, we've dismantled hundreds of Teslas since 2012. We know exactly which parts fit which years because we pull, inspect, and test them daily.
Tesla's rapid refreshes create major fitment gaps that catch most buyers off guard. Buying the wrong bumper, fender, or headlight wastes time and money.
This guide delivers the deepest, most accurate breakdown available anywhere — based on real salvage data, OEM part numbers, and physical comparisons — so you get the right used OEM part the first time.
Tesla Model S Fitment Guide (2012–2026)
The Model S had three distinct body generations. Panels do not interchange across them.
| Generation | Years | Key identifier |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-Facelift | 2012 – Early 2016 | Black "grille" area, chrome trim |
| Facelift (Raven) | 2016 – 2020 | Smooth nose, Model X-style front |
| Plaid / Palladium | 2021 – 2026 | Wider, aggressive fascia; yoke-era styling |
2012 – Early 2016 (Pre-Facelift)
- Original front fascia with prominent black "grille" area, chrome trim, halogen or early LED headlights.
- Hood, fenders, front bumper, rear bumper/diffuser, and side skirts are unique to this era.
- No interchange with any 2016+ Model S. Mounting points, sensor locations, and aero shaping differ completely.
- Common parts we stock: full front clip, headlights, rear diffuser.
2016–2020 (Facelift — Includes 2019 Raven)
- April 2016 major front-end redesign: smooth nose like Model X, thin gap under hood, new LED headlights, painted side skirts, revised rear diffuser.
- Raven (2019) added motors, adaptive suspension, and braking — but zero body panel changes. All 2016–2020 panels interchange 100%.
- Hood, fenders, front/rear bumpers, headlights, taillights, and frunk are fully compatible within this era.
- Minor 2017–2018 HEPA filter tweak slightly reduced frunk space but did not affect external panels.
- Raven and non-Raven doors, quarters, and roof are identical.
2021–2026 (Plaid / Palladium Refresh + 2026 Minor Update)
- Complete new body: revised front fascia (wider, more aggressive), new hood, fenders (wider track by ~0.75"), rear bumper/taillights, and diffuser.
- 2021–2025 Plaid and Long Range share all major panels.
- 2026 refresh: Plaid-specific new nose, integrated splitter, revised bumpers, front bumper camera, new wheels, and subtle chassis tweaks. Major panels (hood, doors, quarters) remain compatible with 2021–2025, but front fascia, bumpers, headlights, and some trim do not swap with pre-2026.
- No fitment with any pre-2021 Model S — different mounting, wiring, and sensor placements.
- Production ended 2026; these are the final body style.
Check VIN (5th digit) or a front-end photo. Pre-2016 = black grille area. 2016–2020 = smooth nose. 2021+ = wider aggressive front.
Tesla Model X Fitment Guide (2015–2026)
Two main body eras. Falcon-wing doors are era-specific.
| Generation | Years | Key identifier |
|---|---|---|
| Original (Raven) | 2015 – 2020 | Chrome accents, original fascia |
| Palladium Refresh | 2021 – 2026 | No chrome, updated headlights |
2015–2020 (Original — Includes 2019 Raven)
- Signature falcon-wing doors, original front fascia, chrome accents, rear design.
- Raven added powertrain/suspension but kept identical body panels. Full interchange within 2015–2020.
- Front bumper, fenders, hood, rear bumper, and taillights are unique to this generation.
2021–2026 (Palladium Refresh + 2026 Minor Update)
- 2021 full redesign: new front fascia (no chrome), updated headlights, revised rear, quieter cabin focus.
- Falcon doors carried over but with internal updates.
- 2026 refresh adds front bumper camera, new wheels, Frost Blue paint, minor aero tweaks, and extra sound deadening. Major exterior panels (hood, fenders, doors, quarters) interchange with 2021–2025; front/rear bumpers and some lighting are 2026-specific.
- Zero interchange with pre-2021 X — different fascia mounting, sensor locations, and aero.
Falcon doors do not swap eras. Always match year range when buying doors or a front clip.
Tesla Model 3 Fitment Guide (2017–Present)
Two generations. Highland changed nearly everything.
| Generation | Years | Key identifier |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-Highland | 2017 – 2023 | Chrome trim, split horizontal taillights |
| Highland Refresh | 2024 – Present | Seamless light bar, integrated taillights |
2017–2023 (Pre-Highland)
- Original front fascia with chrome, reflector headlights, separate fog lights.
- Full body panels interchangeable across 2017–2023 (including Performance).
- Rear bumper, taillights (horizontal split design), hood, fenders, and trunk lid are specific to this generation.
2024–Present (Highland Refresh)
- Almost every exterior panel is new: pinched front fascia, full-width light bar headlights, revised hood and fenders, completely new rear bumper/taillights/diffuser (integrated taillights into trunk lid).
- Only doors and rear quarter panels carry over.
- Improved panel gaps, double-pane glass, and aero changes mean no other exterior parts fit pre-2024.
- Interior, suspension, and wiring also differ — do not mix.
Highland is instantly identifiable by the seamless front light bar and clean rear. Pre-Highland has visible chrome and split taillights.
Tesla Model Y Fitment Guide (2020–Present)
Two generations. Juniper mirrors Highland changes.
| Generation | Years | Key identifier |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-Juniper | 2020 – Early 2025 | Classic front, central headlights |
| Juniper Refresh | 2025 – Present | Full-width front & rear light bars |
2020 – Early 2025 (Pre-Juniper)
- All body panels fully interchangeable across years and trims (including 7-seat).
- Classic front design with central headlights, standard rear taillights.
2025–Present (Juniper Refresh)
- Major exterior overhaul: full-width front light bar, new hood/fenders/bumpers, revised rear light bar and diffuser.
- Doors and rear quarters mostly carry over; everything else (front fascia, hood, fenders, taillights, bumpers) is incompatible with pre-2025.
- Aero improvements (Cd 0.22), stiffer structure, new wheels, and suspension changes.
- Length increased slightly; ground clearance tweaked for better stability.
Juniper has the continuous front light bar like the Highland Model 3. Pre-Juniper looks like the original Model Y.
Why Fitment Matters — And Why J&J Is Your Authority
Tesla does not publish detailed interchange charts. Insurance companies and shops often guess wrong and order non-fitting parts. We verify every panel on our lot against the exact VIN and generation before listing.
Checked against the exact car
Every panel is matched to the donor VIN and generation before it goes on the shelf — no guessing, no surprises at install.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Model S panels swap between generations?
No. The three Model S generations (2012–early 2016, 2016–2020, and 2021–2026) have different mounting points, sensor locations, and aero shaping. Front fascia, hood, fenders, and bumpers do not cross between eras. Some interior components may swap, but exterior panels do not.
What's the difference between Raven and non-Raven body panels?
None on the exterior. The 2019 Raven update for Model S and Model X changed motors, suspension, and braking, but kept identical body panels. All 2016–2020 Model S panels and all 2015–2020 Model X panels are 100% interchangeable regardless of Raven status.
Will a 2024 Highland bumper fit a 2023 Model 3?
No. The Highland refresh changed nearly every exterior panel except the doors and rear quarter panels. Front fascia, hood, fenders, rear bumper, taillights, and trim are all Highland-specific and do not fit 2017–2023 Model 3s.
How can I tell which Model Y generation I have?
Look at the front end. Pre-Juniper (2020 – early 2025) has a clean front with central headlights and no light bar. Juniper (2025+) has a full-width front light bar, similar to the Highland Model 3. The rear is also redesigned with a light bar across the trunk.
Does the 2026 Plaid refresh affect parts interchange?
Partially. Major structural panels (hood, doors, quarters) are still compatible with 2021–2025 Model S Plaid and Long Range. But the 2026 front fascia, bumpers, headlights, and some trim pieces are unique and do not swap with earlier 2021+ cars.
Are aftermarket Tesla body panels worth it vs. used OEM?
Usually no. Aftermarket Tesla panels are improving, but gap consistency, paint match, and sensor mounting are still hit-or-miss. Used OEM panels from a verified salvage source give you factory fit at a fraction of new Tesla pricing. See our companion guide on new vs. used vs. aftermarket sourcing for the full breakdown.
